GORDON EXTRA-CURRICULAR CODE OF CONDUCT

Participation in the athletic program and/or UIL contests is not a right but a privilege. No student is required to take part in the contests or activities. Therefore, it is important that all students taking part in the program understand and conform to the rules therein and that the coaches of the sport or activities have every right to remove these privileges.

Note: The term student athlete includes any Gordon ISD student who participates in any extra-curricular activity. The following policies include all extra-curricular activities including but not limited to athletics, UIL academics, FFA, cheerleading, and drill team.

ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY

Student athletes will be expected to excel to their fullest potential in the classroom. In order to promote success in the classroom, a coach may require and provide a study hall during the season.

1) A student athlete is ineligible if after the first six-week grading period he/she has a grade lower than 70. Ineligibility continues for at least three weeks and is not removed during the school year until the athlete is passing all subjects. Ineligibility does not last beyond the end of the school year.

2) Until the ineligibility is removed or the school year ends, a school district shall review the grades of a student at the end of each three-week period following the date on which the suspension began.

3) A student athlete that is ineligible may practice with other students, but may not participate in a competition.

4) Ineligible athletes shall not travel with the school to a contest, sit with them, or wear uniforms during the contest.

CONDUCT

All Gordon student athletes will be expected to conduct themselves with pride and dignity at all times on and off the field of play. Student athletes may be suspended indefinitely from the athletic program for repeated conduct violations.

Student athletes should maintain a proper attitude in the classroom. Misbehavior in the classroom may result in the athlete receiving additional discipline from his/her coach/sponsor.

Student athletes must show respect for all authority. This includes parents, teachers, administrators, coaches, and officials.

Profanity by a student athlete is not acceptable.

If a student athlete is suspended from school for ANY reason including a placement into DAEP, or ISS he/she will be ineligible during that period of suspension.

If a student athlete is dismissed from a program for one calendar year he/she may return to the athletic program on the same date of dismissal. (Ex: Dismissed Jan. 30, 2006, return Jan. 30, 2007.) Student athletes that return will not be guaranteed a spot on a particular team because of classification.
